Why doesnt my black printer ink work on my Brother printer?

When you say "new ink" i a assuming you may have refilled this cartridge rather than replacing it with a new Brother branded cartridge. Since ink formulations are very specialized and patented, many manufacturers wisely prevent you from reusing the cartridge by employing "smart chips".. These chips count drop firings and determine when the tank is empty. These chips are typically not resettable, remaining you can put new ink in, but it will not work. After market ink can result in anything from poor performance, fading pictures to even printer damage. For that reason, it is best avoided. Buying a new cheap printer leaves you with the same problem...a lousy printer that uses expensive ink. I switched to using a Kodak printer. Their new ink tanks sell for about HALF of what all other manufacturers charge. Refer to link below.

I think that this is the compatibility problem that you are facing and rather than getting a new OEM Inkjet Cartridge it is better to get a much cheaper and better option by buying remanufactured or recycled Inkjet Cartridge. Their are many people who are selling such inkjet cartridges, basically these cartridges are reused by using empty cartridges and after that cleaning and refilling them with ink for further reuse. They are eco friendly cartridges as they help in reusing old products rather than dumping them and create lot of electronic waste.
