What is the best type of printer for printing pictures laser or inkjet?

in the market for a new printer

Answer:
For photos, definately an inkjet. The resolution is almost always higher, and the ink is cheaper per page than a laser (BTW, I'm an HP sales rep, so I'll use them as an example): I've got a color laser that gets about 2500 pages out of a set of toner, which runs me $500. A set of XL cartridges for an OfficeJet Pro 8600 will print about the same # of pages, and runs around $120. Also, if you try and put regular photo paper in a laser, the fuser is going to cause the top layer of the paper to melt. If you're lucky, it just ruins the paper--if you're not, you've got to get the printer repaired or replace Combine the lower cost with the higher resolution (which you need for photos), and an inkjet is the better choice for what you're doing.

Laser printers are somewhat more difficult to mantain, but the toners last way longer than ink cartridges do, and so you will pay lower for refills in the long run. As for image quality, a low-tier inkjet can beat a medium range colour laser printer or even some of the most expensive ones. The downside of it is that you will have to refill more often. So if you do much printing and you don't really care about the image quality, go for laser. If you print less but you also need your prints to be high-quality, get an inkjet.

Choosing a printer inkjet or Laser depends on your needs. If you print a lot, want fast print speed and don't need top-quality photo prints, a laser printer will suit you. Inkjet's are perfectionists they do all rounder job. An inkjet printer will suit you if you print a bit of everything.

Laser is the way to go.

lasers are faster and sharper for text but they use powder which is melted to the paper by heat. ink is far better for photos. there isn't a really good photo paper for lasers because the coating doesn't withstand the heat well. the printer which is the choice of photographers and graphic artists is the epson artisan 1430. Epson wins for best price/feature comparison, best warranty and lowest cost of ink. You can't beat their warranty. If anything goes wrong, they will fedex a replacement and pick up the old one at their expense. You can get ink for under 50 cents a cartridge at www.ccs-digital.com. You pay under 2.50 for reusable cartridges and then get $2 back for the empties. Or you can buy refillables (which is what Im using now) and refill yourself for pennies.
