it's a very bad idea to turn the printer off or remove the cartridges each time you leave. the printer runs a charging process every time you install cartridges or turn it back on. this not only wastes a lot of ink, that ink goes to the waste ink tank. when the tank is full, the printer stops working. the solution is to get your cartridges where I get mine, ccs-digital.com With cheaper cartridges, it wont be so costly if your roommates use your printer occasionally. https://www.ccs-digital.com/showink.asp?manufact=Epson&showprinter=XP-600

Hi Franz, Easy... simply take the Ink cartridges out when you're not using them. Store them in a zip-lock bag and when you're ready to print, simply put the ink back in. That way, they can't just turn the printer back on, print and then turn it back off and be sneaky about it.
