You need a dvd burner. (hardware) To check if you have one you can download free software like siw which is a sytem information software. You can get it anywhere but here also: http://www.gtopala.com/download/siw.exe Go to hardware --> storage devices and look at your media reader. It should say: DVD Writer: R/RW to mean writer and re-writer. If not visible then you don't have a dvd writer. If you do you can try a software like nero but for the most simple conversion of any video format to dvd that can be played on most home theatre systems and allows drag and drop of files and one button operation try something like convertx2dvd. (note you will need at least 4.3 gig free on your main drive). For a free alternative try google search.

To burn a DVD you need both, software and hardware. Look right at your CD-ROM on your computer, is there a little logo on it that says DVD-R? If its a newer computer most likely it has one. There are several free programs available to burn your movies onto DVD. Here is a list of some on www.download.com http://www.download.com/windows/dvd-burners/3150-18554_4-0.html?tag=ltcol;nav

if you have a normal cd burner you could try that. i did and it works, but i must say its not the best quality. so yeah, you may need to buy yourself a dvd burner
If the files are in AVI or Mpeg format you dont need a DVD burner to burn those movies. but then again your DVD player might not support the files, (but some do). If you have a different file format try google 'n "(the file format you have) to avi, or mpeg convertor" cause it sounds like you dont have a DVD burner. Good luck mang

your computer must have a built in dvd burner. otherwise you can buy one to plug in, or use a different computer. it doesn't have anything to do with the software, only your computer itself.
