Do you have a Santa Rosa MacBook? If so, you can upgrade to 4GB but 1GB to 2GB is good enough. If you have an older MacBook, you can only go up to 3.3GB. The older chipset does not fully support 4GB of RAM.

1024 mb= 1 gb if your os is 32bit then anything more than 3.2 is not going to be utilized and addressed so don't go for it. your upgradation also depends on your motherboard that how much it can hold. certainly, many 1 gb look to be the better according to the specifications given by you

1gb is 1000mb.. technically the 1GB is 1024 MB. 1024 MB is exactly 1073741824 bytes. by the way, ur computer might not be able to support 4GB of ram, but if you do add 4GB or more, then it will only show up as 3.5GB RAM. If you add 4GB or more, its NOT going to cause any errors so don't worry. if ur computer is 64 bit, then u can support way beyond 4gb...
