First of all, you should never use a computer during a storm, surge suppressor or not. In fact you should disconnect you cable modem or dsl modem as well from the cable/phone line and power. SS's give you a false sense of security, lighting can fry them just as easily. Your power supply or mother board is toast.

You have a hardware problem from the sounds of it. More likely than not the power supply is toast. The good news is that power supplies are fairly cheap, und once replaced, usually you can access all of the data previously stored on the hard drive. Take it to a reputable repair shop in your area.

Download a program that makes boot up floppy disks. You will need 6 empty disks. The Program name is WindowsXP-KB310994-SP2-Pro-BootDisk-ENU.... Good luck.

A surge protector is only as good as the warranty that comes with it. Electricity strong and fast and can jump it. Check your warranty you might be protected.

your harddrive probably gone bad, don't go to best buy tho, and my friends work at geeksquad making 12+ an hour depending on level of experience and qualifications you can make decent, but unfortunately most of geeksquad are just posers who don't know much, and I'll never deal with best buy ever again personally. best bet is to buy another harddrive, install it, install windows, and plug the other harddrive into it so you have 2 harddrives at the sametime and that way you might still have access to some old files you might want to keep, probably won't be there, but hey best to try before giving up on it. www.newegg.com is spectacular with pricing for parts. otherwise if you need a cheap computer www.geeks.com you can get a pentium 4 computer for around 100-200 shipped

It sounds like your power supply took the hit. Check to see if the fan on the power supply is running when you turn it on, thats an easy check to do. If its not running then replace the power supply. if that is still running the hard drive may have taken the hit directly, may have fried it. If you have the operating system disks, your gonna have to get a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system. If the computer is an older model and you don't have all the disks for reinstallation, just replace the whole system it will be cheaper in the long run.

First, are you absolutely sure the computer hardware hasn't been fried? Will the computer get past POST after checking the memory? Do you get a single beep during POST or does it give you multiple beeps? Can you tell if the hard drive is spinning? If it looks like all of this is in order, run Windows Repair from the installation disk. Look in the links below for steps on this You didn't say, so this is assuming the computer runs XP. Good luck!

You have to hold down the delete key when you turn on the pc. then go to the screen where it says to boot from cdrom and make that the priority. then use your cd.
