I want to be an exchange student this summer to travel to a foreign country ( possibly the U.K.), what program?

There are many exchange programs available in the U.K., although most of them are targeted at college students. However, many English students take a "gap year" before university, so if you want to stay in the U.K. your best option is to look at one of the many volunteer programs aimed at gap year students. I would really recommend doing something that will look good on your CV and boost your chances of getting accepted to a good college - either here in the States or even in Europe. My point is, just staying with a host family, unless you go to continental Europe and pick up a second language, won't really add much to your CV. One of the best programs I know of is the Iona Community (an unbelievable location, and really interesting experience in an area of outstanding natural Beauty and historical/cultural importance) in Iona in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, although given your interest in traveling to Europe during your stay, I am not sure this would ideal.
