Answer:
If you are buying a computer for which it's main focus is gaming, I would recommend building your own. Building eliminates the middle-man, reducing costs a lot. But if your not up to that, be sure you know ahead of time that if you want the true gaming experience, you are going to spend a lot of money. I would recommend *at least* an Intel Core 2 Quad processor, and 4GB of 800MHz *brand name* RAM. Video Card wise, I would not get the 9800GT, it is an outdated card. A GTX-series card would be ideal, a GTX260 or GTX280 would be perfect. If you want to go all-out, get an Intel Core i7. The i7 is a lot more expensive, but you will see the performance boost while multitasking (this is the chip that I am using now). The Core i7 has 4 physical cores, and each core supports Intel Hyperthreading technology, bringing the logical core count up to 8 (Windows will see that you have an octo-core processor). Along with the i7, a GTX295 would be great, it is a dual-chip card spanned across two PCBs, so it is a lot hotter (get a nice, full tower or large mid tower case), and the performance you get from that card will be a perfect match for the i7. 6GB of 1600MHz RAM would be the ideal amount for that build too. But if midrange is where you are at, make sure you have an Intel Core 2 Quad, 4GB 800MHz RAM, and a GTX-series card, and you would be good to go. One of my friends has that card. Its pretty good. For ~$100 its not the best card out there, but it is worth the money. If you're planning on gettnig a big monitor and playing the latest games with the settings maxed out, you should go for a better card than the 9800GT

Yes its a good card. My current gaming pc runs two of them in SLI and I have no problems, even with SLI turned off it still runs games great. You can probably however find a GTX260 for around the same exact price maybe 10 bucks more which is a better card, but there is nothing wrong with the 9800.
