How would I go about researching and eventually attending a university/college in the UK/Ireland?

In the UK, to study medicine it is a 5-year course which most UK students start when they are 18/19. There isn't a "pre-med" course that I know of. After the 5 years you get a job in a hospital/doctors surgery/etc. to complete your training in the area of your choice. If you do 6 years undergraduate training you can get a BSc as well as your qualification in medicine. There are several very good medical schools in the UK, to check rankings look at The Times or The Guardian Educational Supplements. This goes for any subject. Although Oxford and Cambridge are great Universities, there are plenty of other very good ones - so don't limit your search to those two. UCAS is a good starter to find out which Universities offer what and what you need to get into them. You should then look at the individual university websites and department pages.
