When you faint from anemia?

Why do omnivores criticize vegans&vegetarians for being anemic when they themselves have a risk for anemia?

  • I mean, all I hear from omnivores is that if you don't eat meat, you will develop anemia. Then yesterday, I just heard for the first time in my life that meat eaters can have ...show more

  • Answer:

It's a simplistic, defensive argument based on the false assumption that meat is the only (or best) source of iron.

Human omnivores can be anemic for sure, they just often assume that it's always vegetarians.

They're idiots, that's why

That guy that did that thing

Same thing with having a B12 deficiency; millions of omnivores suffer from anemia and B12 deficiency every year. I only know of two people who are anemic and both eat meat. 3 tbsp of Cream Of Wheat, gives you 30% of your RDA of iron. I eat atleast a cup of it a day, usually in the morning, which already exceeds the iron I need, and I also eat iron rich foods on a regular basis. Daisy is an idiot that contradicts herself on a regular basis; first saying that omnivores have higher instances of anemia but vegetarians don't, then saying if you don't eat heme iron sources you're in trouble. Which one is it Daisy? Because "at risk" is not the same as "afflicted with". It must suck when science and common sense contradicts your anti vegetarian agenda.

Anaemia is as often a problem with absorption as a problem with intake...some people get tonnes of iron in their diet but don't use it well within the body. Women of menstruating age are more likely to be anaemic also. It's definitely not as simple as vegetarians=anaemic and it's SO ignorant when omnivores assume this. After all, what did Popeye eat to get his iron? It wasn't beef steaks! Spinach is well renowned for being an excellent iron source, and there are tonnes of other veggie sources of iron.

Aw yeauh - You really come out with some ridiculous diatribe. Even if what you say is true (to which I have some doubt), the level of slave labour including child slave labour, in the production of meat, chocolate and clothing far outweighs that of Quinoa....if you have nothing constructive to say, I suggest you might consider writing on a notepad document and save it to your desktop for your own narrow minded reference. Anemia is the most common disorder of the blood and is not exclusive to either meat or non meat eaters, or those excluding all animal products.

anyone can be anemic. There are more causes than just diet issues. People who point at one type of eater or another are just ignorant.

Fat addicted idiots.

Well if *you've* only just heard for the first time in your life that meat-eaters can get anaemia, maybe *they* don't know either. Maybe their entire knowledge of health and nutrition comes from sensationalist media stories and scaremongering. Not that that stops them spouting off about their ignorance of course. Actually women of childbearing age tend to be most at risk of anaemia, because of iron lost with menstrual blood, with veg*nism having little bearing. As someone else pointed out, ability to absorb iron is just as important as its consumption.

That is a stereotype. There are many different types of anemia, some of which are hereditary and have nothing to do with diet. My late sister in law had thalassemia, a form of anemia that is inherited, and she ate meat. What about sickle cell anemia? It has nothing to do with diet either. I am vegetarian and a regular blood donor, sometimes I have had low iron, which is easily solved by taking a spoonful of molasses every now and then. Meat is not the only source of iron. Vitamin C also boosts iron absorption.
