If you're going to study, the main question is what your study is about in order to advise. In terms of tourism, both countries are great and very different each other. While you can drive and touch 3 countries a day in Europe, you have to flight from Buenos Aires to Patagonia or to Iguazu Falls in Argentina. Both countries are very nice to melt into their easy going living style. Remember Argentinean have a lot of Spanish and Italian roots. If you go to Europe, don't miss museums, don't miss Vatican, don't miss Rome, The Cote Azur, and a long etc. If you go to Argentina, besides Patagonia (including Antarctica if possible) and Iguazu, I highlight you stay a couple of days at a 'estancia' (ranch). That is an incredible experience! Both countries' food are also awesome. In terms of safety, you'll never feel safer than in the US or Switzerland. I'd say you don't have to put your Rolex on, do not carry more that $50, leave your passport at home/hotel, and do not tell everybody that you don't know anything about it. Just get advice from people you trust on there and take public transportation (specially metro) instead of taxis. In Argentina you can rely on the 'remises' service, which are companies you have to call and they send a driver to pick you up, wait for you, and bring you back very safely. In terms of what you seem to go to... meaning study, you better add some additional information about your studies and university or college options. You'll fall in love with either country anyways! Good luck!

Lauren, Both countries are never as safe as you would fell in the US. Pickpockets are very common but as long as you don't "show off" clothing brands, jewerly and etc you will be fine. If you go to Spain you will be able to travel to different countries and mentioned above. Argentina is a huge coutry and the diversity of climates and regions are great. No matter where you go, you should try and see if you meet new people so that you can travel with them, traveling in groups is always much safer. Are you going to be studying at a international school or just a local institution? Well I love both countries but being from Brazil and just have visited Argentina this past January I fell in love with it. Patagonia is awesome. So the main difference is you want to be closer to nature or to Europeans capitals? Europe you will be able to go always until you get at an older age....just a thought!
