Can someone explain what a flash drive is used for i got the list for my son's school supplies?

a flash drive (also referred to as a usb flash drive) is a thumb sized portable hard drive (can fit in your pocket usually) that can be used to store files for easy transport from one computer to another. 1gb is plenty for students...and if everyone has one its better than sharing it especially if projects are due on the same day there is no proven "good" brand (failure rates amongst the popular brands are about the same)...but stay away from the generic sounding ones.

well i'd get the 1gig they recommended but it's probably cheaper to get the bigger flash drive. the flash drive is like a hard drive it will store his work or whatever onto that drive so as not to clutter up the school's hard drive and keep other's from messing with or deleting his saved suff. i never use them so i can't say what a good brand is.

It hold more info than an floppy disk or a cd. You can usually find them with a lanyard or keyring. They upload through your USB ports. They are fairly inexpensive.....lower cost $10.
