How to get videos from a camcorder onto a computer?

How do i get my videos onto my computer by a camcorder?

  • i have a samsung camcorder and it is digital Type of camcorder: miniDV digital video cassette SC-D453/D455/D457 Do i need to go buy any cables?? help

  • Answer:

All MiniDV camcorders have a FireWire (i.Link, IEEE1394) socket for output, so you need to acquire the means to transfer to PC via Firewire. That entails buying a Firewire cable and (if your PC doesn't have one) a Firewire port. These can usually be added really cheaply in the form of a card that slots into an available card slot at the back. In the UK you can get a "1394 Firewire" card with 2 or 3 ports for around a tenner on Amazon. Note that the card will probably have larger 6-pin ports, where your camcorder will have a smaller 4-pin port, so you need a 4-pin to 6-pin cable. Buy it with the card if necessary.

according to sony website for your camera,it does have a firewire port, also known as ieee{1394},of course you'll need a firewire port on your comp, look at the back or front for 1394 port, your manual should indicate where,if not you can get a pci card with these ports on,then connx with a firewire cable, install drivers, then when up and running, import with windows movie maker, good luck!
