I understand that when travelling to Kenya that you must get your visa at Nairobi .?

That should be enough time.You can get you visa in mombasa but the problem is that while in Nairobi there is no connecting lounge between international arrivals/departures and local arrivals/departures.You have to exit the international arrival lounge to enter the local departure for which your visa will be required
