  Really, I hate these "my brand is better!" wars. There IS NO best brand. Really. They all have the engineering and design resources to make a great camera. The only questions is what specific market they target. For instance, Fujinon makes great proffesional video lenses and such. Canon makes great prosumer cameras. Panasonic is well known for their pro-cams. Sony makes great consumer stuff, not-so great prosumer stuff, and great profffesional stuff. Just pick one with the right features and price for you. Sounds like you're looking at the consumer market of cameras. For ~$400 (I can't remember the exact price right now) the PV-GS320 is great. It's SD, not HD, though, so if you want HD then you'll need something else. It uses mini-dv and 3ccds, so the video quality is very good. For ~$800, the HV30 is awesome. It has as good HD video as many $3000 cams, in daylight. It also uses mini-dv tapes. Then, if you want more, you're talking really intense cameras, like the DVX-100 (SD) and the XH-A1 (HD), each at several thousand dollars. These will let you do basically whatever you want. They're probably way more than you need though.
