Whats the best way to get video from my camcorder onto my computer?

I've done it the way you've suggested with no noticeable loss of clarity. However, you really should be able to load it directly to your computer. I wished you had stated more about the type of recorder you have. I use Nero and just plug the video and audio cables into my computer. Put the recorder in playback and set Nero to pick it up. I'm sorry I can't be more help.
