You need to use FireWire/1394 to transfer video (which is stored on the MiniDV tape). The USB connection is only appropriate for images (which are stored on the SD card). I had the same problem and the way I fixed it was to take the memory card and plug it into the computer with a usb adapter and then change it to quick time.

Are you sure they're all pictures? After you transfer them, right click on one at a time and check properties. It'll tell you which ones are pics and which are vids. I had the same prob when I started uploading files from camera to PC.
