Does a Sony Handycam have a USB port?

My Handycam records the video onto MINIDv Tapes.Can i use a USB cable to transfer the video to my PC ?

    I have 3 mini dv cameras and i dont think u can use the usb for downloading the video. The usb is for video streaming as a webcam. I use the firewire(IEE1394) for downloading the video and roxio 7 for burning dvds, on the fly also if u have a fast pc. If your pc dont have IEE1394 u can buy a card and fit it into your machine. IEE1394 has a higher sustained rate than usb2.

Indirectly yes you can, but you have to have the newer USB 2.0 . If you have USB 2.0 (most all computers in the last 3 years have it, if your not sure contact your manufacturer) then you can get a USB to Firewire adapter box. This unit allows you to plug a firewire (IEEE1394) device into a normal USB 2.0 slot. You can't connect the camera directly to the USB port however. You must use a box in the middle.

JakeL is correct. USB and firewire are technicaly quite different, but the botttom line is that firewire was designed for the job and it works; USB wasn't and it doesn't!

Most MiniDV camcorders use the USB connection for transferring from the flash memory card and the DV (FireWire) port to transfer video.

If you expect a high quality transfer from your video camera to your PC you MUST use the firewire connection - it was designed for the job - USB was not. If your reticence to use firewire is because you do not have firewire ports on your computer then that is no problem at all - firewire cards and cables are quite cheap and a vast majority of people fit them themselves - it really is easy.
