How to pack for a flight?

How should I pack my computer so I can ship it on a flight I'm taking?

  • I'm taking a flight with one transfer and need to ship my tower, monitor, and sound system with me. I'm afraid it's going to get trashed, any ideas on how I can pack it so ...show more

  • Answer:

Can you not get the proper shipping boxes with the cardboard and foam? Then pack it and ship it fed ex or UPS if you are in the states. Do a three day ground... It won't cost nearly as much to ship as to replace it when the airlines trashes it.... DON"T send it thru the freight of your flight...Have you ever LOOKED at the condition those boxes and some bags come out like? I used to think some were just old bags untill I took some new ones!!!! Good Luck!

I'd suggest taking it to a ups/FedEx/USPS etc. store and have them box it up for you. If you have friends or family there you can have it shipped to them for you to have when you get to where you are going. If you don't have friends or family there then you can simply put it under the airplane, but I strongly suggest the first one because it is more likely to get to its destination in one piece. Also you may want to consider buying a laptop because it is quite a hassle to carry a desktop around(just an idea)

pack them seperately use alot of bubble wrap security IS GOING to open the box (100%) and x-ray it, ur comp is going to make weird sounds after that

ask alot

I would ship it before hand using UPS or some other traceable mail carrier. The airlines will lose it and you will be SOL! Plus UPS will pack it for you and to ensure that they will pay you should it be damaged during transit

Tell you the truth... I would use bubble wrap, a nice secure and locked case and put something ontop like shirts or pants to keep it from bouncing around and when you get there it will be all safe and sound

Go to a UPS store get the airbags or peanutsto pack them in a put them in a box. If it is damaged by the Airline they will compensate you for it, but thats the way I would go about it. Also ask the ticket agent to put a fragile tag on it (although rarely are they treated differently). But a well packed rubbermaid tub or cardboard box would work great if you package it with some support.

Take it to the post office or UPS store and have them pack it for you. You will have to pay out a bit of cash, but it will cost a whole lot less than a new computer would!

bubble pack

You may be right

i'd probably mail it unless you're going to cary it on... i wouldn't trust the baggage handlers with anything like that, if you must just check with the airline
