Why cant i burn a dvd using nero? im using a dvdr disk but it keeps coming up enter a cdr disk?

you will have to select that you are burning a DVD otherwise it will automaticaly select CDr. also if you have twin drive on just the one make sure it is a DVD re-writer as some re-writers only burn CDrs but still play DVDs. they dont burn DVDs. when you are selcting to burn a DVD make sure the drive you have selected to burn the file has made the correct alterations. you should see when you begin it will give you the option to select a drive to burn from. you will normaly find that the same drive has two different sub headings, as if there are two drives using the same name e.g mycomputer/E:nero/DVD and mycomputer/E:nero/CDr notice in the example that both drive are E but at the end it actualy states which drive it is specificaly using. so make sure when you burn a DVD you use the one marked DVD otherwise your drive will try to burn the DVD using it CDr burning tool wich is non compatible as the same would be vice versa DVD to CDr so make sure that even though the drives are the same that correct subdrive is selected. you also might not be noticing the wrong drive is selected or the DVD option is as the file directory address maybe be too big and hidden but a box to the right stating "browse" should reveal the whole directory address and once shown make sure it does have the DVD and not CDr selected.

my pc and dvd writer has went the same way it used to burn dvds and now when i try snd burn a dvd using nero smart suite it does everything and finnishes after like 7 hours and ejects the disc only to find nothing is actually burnt on the disc, its still blank...has my software licence expired? surely it would tell me... i dunno wish i cud help but im suffering too lol

Nero can burn both Dvd's and Cd's, I agree with m_13, check you are creating a Dvd, not a cd in Nero, Nero may not be the best soft. out there, but it is the easiest, that's why you'll find since 1998 (I'm ballparking) it comes bundled with your burners. Cheers

A similar thing happened to me when my Nero wouldn't accept the blank DVD's i was giving it and it was because my DVD RW driver was missing! So check to see you have the latest versions of your disk drivers! Go to start - right click My Computer and click Properties - click Harware and then Device Manager. Go to your DVD drive and click update (especially if there is a little warning icon)

It could be something as simple as selecting the DVD or CD/DVD tab on the nero control panel instead of CD; or, you don't have the correct format blank dvd for your dvd writer ( DVD-r or DVD+r) http://www.pixfolder.com/images/7269.jpg

At the start of the program in the New Compliation window, you choose either CD or DVD. You will know its worked as down the bottom the write to window it will show GBs of memory and not 700mB.

try dvdShrink 3.2....it's freeware

do the same thing but use windows media player instead. it should work.

Have you tried several blank discs? I can burn DVDs using Nero. Are you sure you have a DVD burner and not just a CD burner? It could be a faulty DVD drive. Can you play DVDs on it? The "enter a CDR" message sounds like its a CD drive . . . Don't throw the computer out, it's either a faulty drive or faulty DVD. Also, DVD R/W is different from DVD R+. If your DVD burner can't erase a DVD R/W disk, it's not a R/W drive, just a write once drive, or DVD R+. Make sure you are using the correct DVD blank. Good luck.
