Why is my computer "running low on virtual memory"?
-
I get this "warning" occassionally. What does it mean, how can I prevent it, and what is happening to my computer?
-
Answer:
ultimately it would be good to purchase more memory. But not any old memory you have to find what is good for your computer. If you can't afford to buy RAM there is something temporary that you can do in the mean time. If you are using windows XP do this...Click on your control panel you should be able to find it in the start tab index. Then select Performance and maintenance. click on>>>see basic information about your computer. When there click on "advanced" and after locate "performance" then click on settings and once there click on advanced again, locate...Virtual memory ad click change, click on custom size, change first box to 256 and in the second box change to 768. ok, if your figures are already higher than that than leave as is I cannot suggest further. Also, what others suggested like getting rid of temporary files etc should help

>You probably have the hard drive filled with junk...clean out all the useless crap and it may improve...(there are other reasons for this problem, but that's the usual cause).<

your hard drive is either full or is severly defragmented. there are other options but are for more advanced users.

Usually happens when you don't have enough ram. It usually increases itself by deleting temporary files and such. Isn't really "bad" for your computer but if you want your computer to run faster you should buy some extra ram. It's very easy to install and you can find directions pretty much anywhere on the internet.

Run AVG ANTI VIRUS, SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY, AD AWARE, and EWIDO. These will clear up anything stopping your computer from running slow and low on memory.
