What type of longboard wheels should I get?

    Most used general longboard wheel is 80a. You want to a sharp edge wheel not a freeride wheel. Freeride wheel has rounded corners like Orangatang Stimulus. Orangatang inHeat are a sharp edge wheel. The sharp edge will grip and make carving fun. Freeride wheel is usually faster, because it is harder (83a) and will break out in a carve and slide. Best size for your board is 70mm to 76mm. The bigger the wheel, the easier it will be to cruise over cracks, bumps and small animals. A big wheel makes wheel bite easier, so check before you buy. Easiest why is to turn your trucks now and see how much room there is before it hits the deck. If you have 65mm wheels and there is half an inch before bite then you can go up to a 75mm wheel easily. Brand wise, it comes down to colour and hype. Orangatang have the name, and hype but you can easier get something that will not blow the budget. I'd look at some of the Sector 9 wheels. Find your local longboard shop and let them help you out.

I recommend a 70 or 72mm with a low abec like 77a. A low abec means the wheel is softer and will absorb shock better so that the ride is less jarring on bumps, therefore cracks and stones are less likely to throw you. Otangs are nice but they are expensive and you don't need to drop that kind of $ on a recreation board. I like the brand Abec 11 and I have the Grippins right now, I can ride them over sticks without any problem. Also if a bigger wheel gives you wheel bite, you can put some riser pads on your board, I use two 1/8th inch riser on each truck.
