Can you connect any electric guitar to a computer and if so how does it work?

Yes. You can connect it to a PC regardless of what you're being told. I am assuming you wish to record through the mike socket of your PC. This may only be possible though using the headphones socket of your amp with a line to the mike socket of your PC. Plugging straight from the guitar to the PC might overload the card and blow it - ask you supplier to check the impedance and see what they say.

you cannot just plug the guitar straight into the Pc, well, you can, but it wills sound terrible. You need a Pre-Amp, somthing like a line6 POD or Behringer V-amp, there provide a preamp to give the sound abit of tone and depth, and also provide effects, distortion, tuner etc..... Simply plug the output of your pre-amp into your PC's souind card, and away you go. Software wise, it depends what you want to do? just record a little bit, maybe do a bit of multitracking? somthing like Steinberg wavelab will work. p.s. when you plug it into your sound card, dont plug it into your microphone socket as the impedence is different, and you could damage your soundcard, if you have a line in socket, use that, if not, use your mic, put make sure you turn down the volume

loads of places to buy one , but you cannot connect directly , the output signal is not strong enuff, need to buy a mixer that can handle guitar input try studiospares.com then you can connect to your line input on your soundcard. Loads of free software out there to sample her "works" try audigy ..it's free as well...get yer ear plugs on !!

It usually comes with software that you must install . Just follow the directions . Try Radio Shack .
