    No. Most people who know how to swim competitively will cover 4-5 yards on their push-off from the wall. Most swimmers will cover about two yards with one stroke cycle (that is both arms completing their portion of the stroke). So, that means you'll get about 2-3 left and 2-3 right arms in front/back crawl, or 2 butterfly or 2 breast and THEN, you'll have to take another turn. So, you'll get a lot of turn practice in and your swimming practice will be, basically, zip.

No way. When you turn off the wall each time you gain at least 2 feet. That leaves 6 feet for practice. Not very much, but it's always better than nothing. You could join a local gym with a pool in it or swim in a neighbor's pool.
