What is the best brand of lcd and plasma tvs?

    For the gentleman who answered earlier: Sony does not even make plasmas any more! They do, however make a good LCD. I believe the nicer Samsung models (550's and 650's) have an edge on the Sony Bravia line as far as LCD goes. Panasonic make great LCDs in smaller sizes. For plasmas I would give the nod to Panasonic. The Panny th-pz800u line is like the best HDTV ever made and even the lesser models have great value. Pioneer plasmas are best in black levels but are pricey and have color accuracy issues. Samsung makes a good priced plasma with awesome color, but lacks the deep blacks.

Bang for your buck? I would agree with Panasonic LCD. Overall best? Sony plasma has some of the best contrast ratios (darker "black" capabilities) out there. However, you might want to wait. A couple of the manufacturers are making good progress with using LEDs instead of flourescent tubes in their LCDs. When complete, you'll have a plasma-quality TV with a price similar to current LCDs.

I'm actually not a big fan of the new Samsungs this year. The black levels are awful! Sony's 4100 series LCDs look much better (a bit more pricey), if that won't fit your budget, check out the Panasonic plasmas. Those look amazing!
