  • Answer:

If you start playing a game right out of the box with a HUD then it might only take an hour or so. Generally with Plasmas you have a break in period of about 200 hours where you need to keep the brightness at about 50% and not have any static displays on the set for more than half an hour. After this break in time it would most likely take roughly 4 hours of a static image for it to burn in. Good news is that most newer plasmas have other features to prevent burn in including one that slightly moves the pixels every so often. The beauty is that the movement is so subtle that the human eye wouldn't be able to tell. Good luck and choose whichever set is best for your situation.

Today's screens, even Plasma, don't have the burn-in issues that earlier screens did. Just an occasional 2-3 hour gaming spree isn't going to do it. To cause burn-in on most screens today, we're talking about 100s of hours of nothing but the same image, day in, day out, week after week.... You already know the precautions, so you shouldn't have a problem.
