  • Answer:

Your EOS 650 can only use Canon EF lenses. Canon currently also produces lenses specifically for digital SLRs - theses are EF-S lenses and will not mount on any EOS film camera.

The AE-1 uses the FD mount, it has a registry of 42.00 mm. The EOS 650 (and all other EOS cameras), uses the EF mount and all electic lens mount with registry of 44.00mm. These two mounts are inreconsilable, the FD lenses need an optical adapter which degrades quality to fit on an EOS, whilst the EF lenses won't work because the AE-1 has no electrical contacts. I personally run Canon EOS cameras as my autofocus system, with this I compliment it with a manual focus system, which is the OM system, you will find the Nikon AI and pre-AI systems equally fruitful, should you wish to run manual focus, alongside autofocus. Other combos would be Pentax/Pentax or Nikon/Nikon because they've used the same mount since day one. But the FD/EF combination is a pain.

The short answer is yes, all modern Canon mount lenses will fit the camera. There are some quite old ones that won't.
