Why does my internet cut out when the phone rings?

Whys does my Internet get cut off every time my house phone rings?

  • My Internet connection gets disconnected every time my house phone rings, we have tried many ways to fix this problem and it still never works, we have Talk-Talk as our provider and ...show more

  • Answer:

The DSL filters need to go on every phone connected to the line not the modem. If you have a filter that has 2 outputs make shure the Modem is connected to the "DSL" side of the filter and the Phone is connected to "Phone". Look close these can be hard to see.

Usually it is the interference causing it to happen. Move the base of the phone or the router further away from each other or change the channel on the router. It may take a few channel changes to find the right one.

My money is on the 2.4ghz phones. Try unplugging them and using a corded phone.

This is a classic sign of missing or Broken ADSL filters. There should have been 2 in the box with the modem. Put 1 on each Phone socket that you have a Phone (or sky box, or fax or answering machine) connected to. Plug the phonephone type devices into the BT phone socket side (the protected side) Plug the modem into one of the other smaller sockets. The filter also protects the Modem as well as the phone. If you have already done this, Then one of the filters has failed. . they do this sometimes. To find which one... either - unplug all of them and put one in only with the Modem and one Phone.. call the phone (eg from a mobile) and see if you lose the modem. check each filter untill you fid teh one that is broken. OR do the same but - unplug each filter one by one... till you remove the problem. IF that does not solve it.. You may have faulty extension wiring.. again.. remove all extension leads.. and confirm the problem no longer happens. and the plug it back in bit by bit untill you find the happens again (and that is the faulty piece) Good (but cheap) filters here: (Used then before reliably) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Safecom-SAMF-2000-Filter-Broadband-Router/dp/B000NP9VTI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1302087664&sr=8-2-spell - 2 off for 4.88 + free P&P http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Dsl-Bt-In-Line-Filter/dp/B000CEBCVU/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1302087630&sr=8-6-spell - one off for 1.50 + P&P DO not use the little Phone doubler designs... they are notorious for not working well. eg do not use this type: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Micro-Filter-Broadband-ADSL-Router/dp/B000NPA53Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=computers&qid=1302087664&sr=8-1
