Prepaid is a great way to go. Virgin Mobile if you live in an area that has good coverage from Sprint. TracFone if you live in an area with good coverage from Cingular (or Cingular also has prepaid plans). The real advantages with prepaid is you never wind up getting yourself in trouble over a huge cell phone bill. You use up your minutes and buy more. It's also a great way to see what you need before signing up for a regular plan later on. If you really do need to get a regular cell phone account you might check with your phone company to see if they have services where you can tie a cell plan to your regular phone service (I think AT&T has this). Ultimately I would recommend trying to come up with the deposit for an account as it will help you build credit which will help you down the road if you want to buy a car, rent a house/apartment, get a utility account, and many other things besides a credit card.

u can get a tracfone from like walmart or target. they have good 1s and u dont need card. or go fones from cingular u dont need card online but they more expensive.

You may have to invest in a pay as you go phone. There are several plans that include the free nights and weekends. The Go Phone is a good example. You have a bill that comes monthly however you pay a month in advance and if or once you have used up the allotted minutes you must pay for more. Convienent for those who don't want to pay a huge fee for a cell. Just check the local service area for all plans before committing especially if there are some conditions or bad service areas near or around you. Good luck!

Out of all the cell phone carriers, Sprint and Nextel have amoung the lowest deposits. I would be really careful going with Nextel because if you do pull a deposit, you'll be placed on their "spending limit program" which will cost you an additional $14.99/month that you don't get back. Sprint does have a spending limit but they don't charge you for it. You should be able to get a cell phone without having a credit card. I got my first cell phone plan with Cingular Wireless when I was 19 with no credit expirience at all. I've also had Verision, Sprint and I currently have Alltel. I would recommend Sprint if you pull a deposit but go ahead and try the other carriers, each carrier has a different way of measuring credit and issuing requirments for deposits. Good luck!

Cingular for one has pay as you go- get one of those. See, the problem is, there are too many people WITH good credit for them to waste time on people in your category- even if YOU would pay your bills, they don't know that.
