You could do this in iTunes. Takes a little bit of work though. Import the mp4 into iTunes. By default it would be listed as a Movie. Find the .mp4 in iTunes & right click & select Get Info Go to the options tab & select Music Video as its Media Kind. It would now be listed under the music section. (If you have iTunes set to convert to .mp3 then you are almost done) If not... go to Edit > Preferences & then Import Settings & select MP3 encoder Then select the .mp4 & any other song in your library & right click & select convert to MP3. iTunes would convert both files to MP3. (You could delete the duplicate song afterward). That's it. The MP4 is now in MP3 format (You could also put the MP4 back in its original video category once the process is done).

You can use a program like audacity to record the audio that streams through your computer when you play the video. You can use a program like Quick Media Converter or Super (Erightsoft) to make an mp3 (sound only) file of the video.

mp3s are audio files. I don't see how you could do that, but I'm no computer genius.
