What do you need to play hd movies on your hd ready tv?

Your best bet now would to purchase a BluRay Player. I would think about supporting a local electronics store and ask them a lot of questions before purchasing. Another option is purchasing a Playstation 3. It is capable of handling a wide range of media including BluRay, DVD, CD, and of course PS3 video games. Make sure you stay away from HD-DVD as a format. You still see these players and movie around but it is a dead format. It is no longer being supported so you won't be able to purchase any more new movies for it. Also, in most cases laptops do not support BluRay.

You really only need an HDMI cord. I'm pretty sure they are around $10-$20 dollars.

Please ignore the US answers, they are garbled and wrong. You can only get HD films on Blu-ray and these can only be played through either a Blu-ray player, Playstation 3 console or a computer with a specified Blu-ray drive (you will have to check the spec). High Definition films cannot fit on a conventional DVD, they don't have the capacity. Blu-ray discs hold over 10x more data. The old HD-DVD format is stone dead so don't touch it with a bargepole. Whatever machine you use to play the disc on it must be connected to the television by an HDMI cable.

first of all.. you need a HD DVD player.. you also need to connect your HD DVD player with HD cables or HDMI cables.. and you TV needs to be HD too.. thats pretty much it.. blue ray has nothing to do with HD movies.. not even the same format.. you can get a $30-$40 HD dvd player at walmart..
