Answer:
Yes you can, but I would personally wait to buy a bluray player until you can afford both that AND the television. Prices will surely go down by then and if you cannot take advantage of the amazing quality now, you might as well not pay more for something that will be cheaper later.

I'd take care of the HDTV first - there's no reason to get a Blu-Ray player unless you have an HDTV, unless you need the 7.1 channel sound RIGHT NOW. Until then, I say stick with DVDs.

Yes, but it probably won't play Blue Ray movies or HDTV games. You can watch regualr DVD movies with it.

I agree with most people here, don't bother with blue ray until you have an HD tv. What's the point? You won't get the picture you are expecting. Start with the tv, and then get the blue ray. Also, blue ray players need to come out with 2.0 technology and then the movies will too. Hold off on both till you get the tv. You can play blue ray movies on regular dvd player, you just won't get the full effect. And remember, the longer the technology is out, the cheaper it gets. I remember when digital watches first came out (yes I'm old), and you couldn't get one for less than $100. Now you can by then for $10 or less at Walmart. I bought a 46inch HD DLP tv 3 years ago for $2100. Now you can get a 46 in plasma for around $1000. The prices keep dropping, and soon you will be able to afford both.
