Are online lifeguarding courses worth it?

Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instructor Courses...?

  • What do you have to be able to do to pass these tests? How many laps/yards/feet/whatever do you have to swim? I can't find specifics on the RedCross website.

    I am not certified as a water safety instructor but I am as a lifeguard. My mother is a CPR and Lifeguarding instructor so I have been to hundreds of her classes....ever since I was a kid. You have to swim 200 yards non-stop and you can only use breast and freestyle strokes you can however alternate, and there isn'e a time limit on how long it takes you. Yes, they are available. Contact the American Red Cross local chapter and they will locate a pool that will be sponsoring Lifeguarding classes. Upon completion, you then can move on to the WSI Instrutor course There are a few pre-requistes: 1. Swim 500 yards use any swim stroke without stopping 2. Swim underwater for 20 feet 3. retrieve a 10 pound diving brick from a minimun dept 9 ft Then pass all necessary CPR, Backboard Rescue, etc WSI is basically a summary of Lifeguarding, it is more involved with teaching swimming lessons, pool activities, ect. JUST GO FOR IT!

Hmmm... if there is one, go to your local YMCA and ask them! one of my friends got a summer job there, and she said that it wasn't too hard.

well i did jr. lifeguards and now im an assistant instructor thye made me swim 4 laps under 1:45 swim 20yrds under water and tred water for awhile but i forgot how long it wasnt that hard..you just have to be in goood shape
