Answer:
GL/GLS refers to the trim package installed on the vehicle, not the engine package or options. As long as the engine the turbo came off of is a 1.8t as well it will work (and it should be, the only turbocharged engine VW made at the time - at least for the Jetta line - was the 1.8t)
