Where is the transmission for a vw beetle yr 2000?

2000 VW Beetle 1.8T EPC light/ CEL is on! Car will not shift gears PLEASE HELP!?

  • The car has 125K miles and these are the things that have been replaced on the count of this problem: Throttle Body Mass Airflow Meter Torque Converter Transmission Coolant system ...show more

  • Answer:

Alright, that transmission has an ECM of it's own and I would consider trouble shooting it. It sound's like your drive-line is in limp mode. (this is a protective action for the drive-line but allows you to get you VW to a safe area.) The transmissions ECM is located on the rain-tray (bottom of windshield in the engine compartment.) in the same area as the engines ECM.

this makes absolutely no sense, when a car is stuck in 3rd its stuck in "limp mode" because theres a transmission fault, that has nothing to do with the other things youve replaced besides the torque converter, transmission and the wiring harness if its for the tranny. someones ripping you off, and it cant be a dealer because they wouldnt be that stupid. id sue them for guaranteeing a fix and it never happening and finding a dealer to fix it properly, or just buy a used car that wont give you crap like a honda. VWs are notoriously unreliable and the older transmissions are notorious for problems.

Huh. Who has done this work? A VW Dealer? Of course the possibilities are endless, the repairers are replacing your entire car and ripping you off hugely by leaving the problem unfixed so you come back to them for more non-fixes. Your best help is a total $x1000 refund from whoever's doing the non-repairs. It's unthinkable to spend that much $ on a 14 yr old New Beetle, many of which were not reliable to begin w/. It's even more unthinkable that the problem hasn't been fixed. If the work hasn't been done @ a VW dealer take it there for diagnosis. If it's a lota $, I'd not get it done and look for a replacement vehicle. & contact a lawyer who practices consumer law for a refund from the ripoff shop. I'd sue em in small claims & report em to state consumer protection dept.
