What is an msd ignition box?

MSD boxes are great, when they work. I had a 6Al hooked up to an IH Farmall 656 gasoline tractor and it ran way smoother with the box than without. I then learned why the term "My Spark Disappeared" was coined. One day the tractor was started, moved about 10 feet then died. It was found that the soldered in internal fuse in the box had blown. When the fuse was replaced the box worked again but I never trusted it after that and uninstalled it from the tractor.

This sounds pretty bogus to me. At the first spark - there wont be any combustible mixture left near the plug since the flame front is travelling out from the plug.

Its an aftermarket ignition that performs better than a factory one for higher voltage and better spark.

msd stands for multiple spark discharge, it is primarily designed to reduce emissions by completely burning by-products of combustion by firing each spark plug multiple times is this necessary on a car primarily driven on the street -- NO! is this helpful on a drag strip car redlining at 9,500rpms -- MAYBE! it can extend the performance of a mediocre ignition system when pushed to its limit mostly it is there for looks, as in 'that msd looks hot!' would I hook it up -- probably not!
