Another herb that is great for anxiety is Melissa Officinalis, also known as Lemon Balm. I work for a Naturopathic Doctor and this was commonly prescribed, along with other central nervous system calmers, for anxiety.

I agree with Leah's suggestions but am just jumping in to make some suggestions about where to buy some of these supplements. In 18 years of practice as a holistic practitioner I have tried my best to source supplements that are what they say 'on the tin' and really do work. Sadly a huge percentage of what is available on the high street is poorly produced and of questionable origin. I only buy from specialist firms that supply professionals but one of those, Lambert's, is one of the practitioners' favoured brands. All of their supplements are clinically tested and proven before they are launched. Fortunately they have a mail order section for the general public called Nature's Best, which you can look up on the internet. They have Valerian, St. John's Wort and Magasorb (an easily absorbed form of magnesium). You would be best off taking the three items at the same time each day, following the dosages stated on the labels.

Natural remedies for anxiety disorders can include herbs such as St John’s Wort. Clinical studies have demonstrated that this herb can be just as effective as prescription drugs, without the side effects. The calming effects of other herbs such as Passiflora incarnata, Scutellaria laterifolia (Scullcap) and Valerian, can help to take the edge off the initial exposure to the feared object or situation and reduce over-all anxiety. These remedies can be taken without the worry of unwanted side-effects and can help to restore the body’s natural balance and serenity. There are also certain homeopathic remedies which are prescribed for specific Phobias and which can help to reduce the symptoms of anxiety and panic which accompany the phobia. Discuss these options with your doctor or consult a homeopath or naturopath for advice. You may get more info here http://www.healthherbsandnutrition.com/remedies/a/anxiety.htm

I personally use a vegetarian herbal supplement that helps me alot. Its called Resolaxin, which contains Chamomile extract, Lemon Balm Extract, Wild Jujube Extract, Passion Flower Extract, L-Theanine, Magnesium and Vitamin B6. What I really like about this is it takes care of my anxiety naturally without putting you to sleep. You can get Resolaxin at: http://www.cnnutrition.com/en/product.php?find=VTA-A13-RES-01-01
