Who are in the current ICC elite panel of Umpires?

Would you advocate the return of home umpires officiating in Tests once again, with the use of DRS?

  • It is a difficult life for umpires in the elite panel who have to run around the world and are not allowed to officiate in test matches at home. Currently, there are only 4 umpires in ...show more

  • Answer:

DRS has been ineffective. Neutral umpires are definitely needed and I would suggest that be the case even with ODI's. What is needed is to expand the elite umpires panel.... there are dozens of umpires who are as good as the few of those that are in the panel today.

Drs seems more of a hindrance than a help. It disrupts the flow of the game and it makes mistakes. leave the decisions to the man with the best view, the on-field umpire. I recommend remove all forms of DRS except no-ball/ run out ( requested by umpire)

Doctor John

No Keep DRS but home umpires will always be scrutinized.

Jezz

Home umpires on the elite panel with DRS would be fine.

our Lundian board doesnt allow DRS.

The problem is that the technology has become better than the man in the middle, but cricket is too traditional to accept the reality. The easy way to elimate the controversy is to reverse the way that batsman are dismissed. Make the third umpire the primary umpire. All appeals go to DRS. The on field umpires then become on field stewards, who are only called upon if the technology has a glitch. This would eliminate most of the current controversies. We either trust the technology and give it primacy, or we don't, which means we abandon it until it's reliable. ICC has to either agree that the BCCI's criticisms are valid, or they need topiss and get off the pot. This problem is caused because of a void in leadership, not because of umpires or technology.

The level of umpiring has been appalling to say the least & DRS isn't helping it make any better. I actually thought of putting Simon Taufell in the Ashes as an umpire, as I find him virtually perfect, despite his home country being Aus, which isn't allowed. Unfortunately the great umpire has already retired at a young age, so he is out of the equation but looks like your suggestion is worth a try, if DRS is also in place. That would require no. of referrals going up to 5 per innings perhaps, as more mistakes will happen for sure..
