I have lost a title to a end dump trailer and the trailer has no VIN number on it or plates. Need to register

  • Lost title to end dump trailer that I bought. It is still in the old owners name. I have no VIN number or plate numbers and I need to register the trailer. How can I find out what ...show more

  • Answer:

Most states have some provisions for this if the trailer in question is old. Check with DMV first and if doesn't pan out, try http://www.its-titles.com/ They are a title service that gets titles for old vehicles, boats, motorcycles, etc. I have used them before myself on several old cars. What they do is to register the vehicle in a state like Massachusetts that doesn't require title on older vehicles and then that allows you to then get a title in any other state as all states have to recognize the laws and rules of other states. Costs vary with year and type of vehicle. Other companies on the web doing this as well, but this is the only one Ihave used myself.

What "movahvedes" is really saying is people get reggies from "junk yards" and then use them to register whatever it is they have! That is why we went to "titles" because the thieves do the same thing! If you do that say in Massachusetts, when you bring it in to NYS you will be required to go through a DMV inspection (not the normal NYS inspection) but the task force inspection run by the BCI and as soon as they see there are no factory identification tags, your vehicle is seized and you have yourself a hand full of felony charges! If the old owner had it registered, you should be able to go to your DMV because that is kept on record indefinitely! I moved from NYS to Washington state and back with a 15 year gap and NYS had all my original NYS drivers license and other records at the push of a button! Therefore, if the previous owner had it registered and brings ID, the DMV will more than likely have him fill out a form or two and reissue the registration that he will then be able to sign over to you. Otherwise, I would say you have a nice boat anchor or lawn ornament!
