If the timing belt is not due for replacement then you are fine as long as the vehicle will pass inspection. Where I live any car that has a sound system and a recent inspection sticker will sell for $1000. Many people figure if it lasts them one year that it is worth $1000. $750 sounds reasonable if it looks good and there is nothing [or at least nothing major] wrong with it mechanically. I paid $5000 for a 96 Accord Wagon with stick shift but it only had 42,296 miles on it.

dollars? if so then that's not actually that bad.that is alot of miles but Honda's are very well built cars and if there maintained and serviced then it should carry on going. generally civics hold there value well and prices vary massively, here are some factors to consider when worrying whether you got ripped off, * condition of bodywork, interior are a good indication of how well the car has been looked after * depends on what spec the civic is, best is 1.6 vtec VTI, and 1.4 is the enrty level.(average VTI w/70,000 miles goes for about £3300 over here in london) * level of service history on car, number of previous owners * try and find out when cambelt, brakes, clutch etc were last changed (if atall) * give car look over under bonnet, under wheel arches etc so to see if there are any new looking parts that may have been changed recently, and if so enquire as to why. * check for any rattling, smoke out of exhaust, or bumpy ride from engine but generally if the cars spotless other than the high milage then its probably been looked after and id pay that for it. i have a 98 civic that i payed £2300 for, every one gave me grieve for that but its a spotless car and ive done 20,000 miles in it so far without a single issue! (although milage is only 73,000) hope that helps
