Do you have an idea as to what you want to be when you leave education? I didn't. When I was in my final year at high school I was set on going to do beauty therapy at a vocational college near me, rather than going to the sixth form to do A Levels. I have no idea what, but something changed my mind, and I went to Sixth Form. Best thing I've ever done! A Levels you do get to do more options, and it is more of a variety rather than just focusing on one particular area. Only thing is you will have more to learn and more to revise etc etc. If you have an idea of what you want to be, it would be best to speak to your careers adviser at your school (or even ask a question on here, I could help!) as to what your best options would be in terms of further education. Do a little bit of research into the career you want and see what qualifications and skills etc are needed in order to get into that career. I've posted a link to a website which gives you a profile of jobs. It covers anything from Medicine to Teaching, Public Services, Journalism etc. It will give you a description of the job, salary, qualifications etc. I will watch this question to see if you edit it with any more information, and I'll see if I can help :) http://careersadvice.direct.gov.uk/helpwithyourcareer/jobprofiles/ By the way, you can always drop out of your choice if you don't like it after the first couple of weeks and move to another college for different options. Try and go on open days too to get as much information as possible on the places you are considering.

When I left school, I started a GNVQ Advanced in Art and Design which could have lead onto many different specialities in the 2nd year leading on again to many different degrees that I could have chosen at university. I didn't complete the GNVQ and at the start of the next year I started a course in childcare which I knew was the wrong choice the first day. At the end of the day I went to see the head of A-Levels and signed up to study English, History and Media. History was awful so after a couple of months I dropped it for Film Studies. The A-Levels were great, but again they were left incomplete due to unforseen circumstances. I am 27 now, for the last few years I have always regretted not being able to finish college, so I contacted The Open University and I am now studying for a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. When I was at school I had no idea that I wanted to be a Psychologist but really it's the one subject that over the years I kept going back to because I found it fascinating, I always thought I would be an artist because I was good at it but really art is just my hobby. Basically, as soon as you are 19 and too old to receive free education, you are considered a mature student. Once you are a mature student, you can go to university without having to have completed A-Levels etc... You can also get grant funding (I don't pay for my degree). Don't stress too much now because if you make the wrong choice the first time around you can change your mind as often as you need to. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that A-Levels are best. If you want to go to university there are many routes to get there. GNVQs for example are the equivalent of A-Levels anyway. Think about what you are good at and what you enjoy learning. Research the type of career you would like and don't let anybody put you off of anything. I will be a qualified Psychologist soon - something I never dreamed I would achieve because I was too young to know what I wanted to do whilst at school. You can do anything you want.
