I have a ford escort the drivers side door lock will not work so i have to get in from the passenger side?

The lock, and possibly the key, will have worn out. A Ford garage can build up a new lock to suit your key, and I'd advise getting a new key cut too, or use the spare one.

Standard problem with Fords. Many moons ago I had an 'H' reg Escort, 1.6. I had a different key for both front doors and the hatch. Cheap cars = cheap components.

how mechanically minded are you? heres a v cheap option.. Scrapyard, full set of locks inc ignition and replace the full set, if not take the car to Ford they will replace the drivers lock with a new one to the cut of your key!! only FOrd cars do this..!!

The lock linkage has cheap plastic clips holding it on, and they are subject to breakage. Take it in and they can pop the door panel and replace the linkage hold down quite easily. Did you by chance lock your keys in your car and allow someone to use a slim Jim to open the doors? If so, that is when the clip was broken, see if that person will pay for the repair now.

try spraying some WD40 in the door where you can see the latch mechanism "where the door latches to the door frame". Spray quite a bit in there and just keep working the door lock up and down. This may be a cheap way to fix it. It worked on my wife's ford mini van.

Not a driver so excuse my stupity, can you take the lock from the boot and put it on the driver side door? This is assuming you can pop the boot open from inside anyway
