    First, be sure you want to be a firefighter. Somewhere around 70% of the runs will be medical. You will get a lot of experience handling heart attacks, attempted suicides, persons horribly injured in auto accidents, dead people, false alarms and an occasional fire. Most fire departments like to see applicants who are certified as EMTs or paramedics. They like also, graduates of fire science programs. Check with your local fire department to learn their requirements. Probably they can tell where you could get classes in the desired subjects

The testing and examinations for females in this profession are usually easier than for men, and this is due to ''political correctness' to encourage fenales to take traditionally male jobs. However if you persist in this endeavour you will find that when a fire occurs the female is usually relegated to a less dangerous task, such as sitting in the engine cab and using the intercom or liaisons with the police, etc... It is not likely you will be asked to actually enter the danger zone or do manual work in the fighting..
