What Is Lumbar Levoscoliosis?

Does anyone know "congenital anomalies are associated with levoscoliosis of the thoracic spine" means?

  • My husband was in an accident 2 months ago...this is what the latest xray tests results are. He has to go for an MRI, but we wondered what this means, how it is treated, etc. ...show more

  • Answer:

Normally a scoliosis of the thoracic spine should be pointing to the right (dextroscoliosis). A levoscoliosis points to the left. Any time a doctor sees a thoracic scoliosis pointing left he/she should consider the possibility of other congenital anomalies (associated problems from birth). A hemivertebra is a common congenital anomaly that can lead to scoliosis. The MRI was ordered to make sure he doesn't have any underlying spinal cord problems that could be contributing to a rapidly progressive scoliotic curve progression. If your husband's accident involved a spinal cord injury leaving him paralyzed, then that is the most likely cause of his scoliosis.
