What does a modem and a router do?

Digital Communications: Our router cannot connect with our modem. Does anyone know what the problem is?

  • We suddenly started to have troubles connecting to the internet 2 days ago. I got strong wifi signal on my computer/laptops but they just cannot connect to the internet. I called my ISP, and they checked and told us there is no problems with our modem, that the status is "online", and there is also no network problem in my area. I am guessing there might be problems connecting my modem to my router? I am using a Cisco EA2700 router, and my modem is an Arris TM902 (provided by my ISP). I tried using an older router of mine but it is still the same. We had a tech guy come to our place this afternoon, and he gave us a new modem, but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what the problem is?

  • Answer:

There is a fundamental problem with your router stopping its broadcasting your wireless signal. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2403745,00.asp try rebooting your router by its reset button on the box itself and then resetting up the connection to modem. if this does not work, it may be the physical wires connecting your modem to your router, try replacing those. That should have been one of the things the tech tried, if this fails and you call another tech, go with another company, he is not trying at all.
