Is it possible to pass the bar exam without going to law school?

Most states require that a person applying to take the Bar exam show proof of graduation from an accredited law school in that state. All states (except graduates of the 2 law schools in Wisconsin) require the passing of the bar exam before a license to practice law in that state is issued. A few states will recognize another state's license (reciprocity). Some will recognize a portion of another state's bar exam (the MSE or Multi-State part) but still require passing that state's specific exam. Check with the Bar Association in the specific State

Last time I checked, several years ago, there was one state that allowed a person to challenge the bar after serving an apprenticeship with a lawyer for several years. I am unaware of anyone who successfully did that. In general, one gets licensed one state at a time. Each state has its own rules about licensing of lawyers who are licensed in other states.
