How much money can I make and still get a Pell grant?

How much money can you get in Pell Grants?

  • My parents make pretty much no money. Can I get a pell grant every year for four years???

  • Answer:

A student whom I know began college last year He is 28, so they go based on his income, not his parents he made just under $13,000 in 2009. So, for 2010-2011 academic year he was awarded $4,300 in Pell Grant he made only $1,200 the year following (serious health issues with no finanical aid other than foodstamps) & was awarded $5,500 in Pell Grant for 2011-2012 academic year ---- This semester, (the one that starts on August 18) is the beginning of the 2011-2012 academic year for the school he is attending... he applied as soon as he did his 2010 taxes. This year, his income should be back to @ his income from 2009. So when he files his 2011 taxes & then uses that to apply for 2012-2013 academic year, I expect his Pell Grant amount will decrease... even if the government weren't to cut funding My point is... when you say your parents make pretty much no money... it helps to have an idea of what the Federal Government considers "pretty much no money".. apparently, even something as low as $1,000 per month for an individual is more than "no money" according to criteria for Pell Grant
