  • Answer:

They give you a check if you have paid your tuition in full already. It is like a normal job though, you get a paycheck based on the hours you worked- usually once a month or every two weeks, whenever the Univeristy pays its regular employees. The $2000 figure is just the maximum the fed govt or whoever allocated them to pay you. If you don't work that much you don't get the full amount. Not sure what happens if you work over that amount? The Financial Aid office can tell you though. ETA*** Work study is a form of financial aid that is subsidized by the government. Depending on your financial situation you get a specific amount of work study aid (like you get specific amount of student loan, Pell grants etc). The $2000 figure is the maximum amount of subsidized money that you are able to earn through the Federal Work Study program. Your $ number is based on the same formula they use to figure out your other federal aid.
