A public option HEALTH INSURANCE plan is the same as any commercial insurance except that it's non-profit and accessible to all citizens. Like any other insurance it's supported by premium payments from the insured and with additional funds from taxes. Commercial insurance is profit driven, costs more because of overhead and profit and rejects from coverage anyone who might get sick. Taxes are used to help pay for the medical care of those who are uninsured or not financially in a position to buy commercial insurance. Either way taxes are used for Medicaid payments. Fact: Medicare, which is a 'public option' has a 3% overhead cost with no profit margin involved. Commercial insurance has a 43% overhead and profit margin involved with strict underwriting rules that often allow them to refuse payments, drop coverage or refuse coverage. In other words they charge more for less. What the hell kind of scam is that?

The debate is which programs to cut so that more money can be co-opted by you know who.

The public option would create a government sponsored health care coverage option for those interested. This option would compete with private health insurance, arguably bringing premiums down. The arguments against such an option are mixed, but are generally concerned with government intrusion into private lives or unfair competition. Neither argument holds up to more than a quick glance and both are meant to scare rather than inform.

Public option is not individual option.. We only keep our freedoms if we, as individuals, have choices! If we do not.. it is part of the Communist propaganda that lost our war with N. Vietnam. Do it for the public good.. a lie above all lies! We would do it to loose choices in our life and it is against family! Earl
