How do I contact The Daily Show?

Financial aid question: How do you show that you have no contact with your parents ??

  • I know that you can not get financial aid unless you are 24, or have no contact with your parents - My question is how do you show that you have no contact with your parents?? AND ...show more

  • Answer:

You CAN get fin aid if you are under 24 years old. And simply having no contact with your parents isn't enough of a reason for getting a dependency override. Just a heads up.. I don't want you to get your hopes up for nothing. Here is a good publication about this.

I tried doing this before since i am 22 and what you have to do is actually call the people and let them know your situation... Let them know your independent and dont have any contact with your parents. Also they are going to need proof of this so be ready with old tax info, proof of residence, utility bills, whatnot just to prove that you are separate from you parents... That you receive not financial support from them and that you dont even know where they are.

Your going to need proof of independence. This means your parents must not have claimed you on their tax forms for the previous year. You may also need to show you live in a household by yourself.

Most financial aid goes off of income tax forms i.e., 1040, thus if you do not show up as an exception on your parents you are free and do not have to include their income. I would also suggest you contact the College's financial aid office right away, as you can surely get financial aid in various forms prior to age 24. There are many options that are free, but go to your school's financial aid office to start.

First Fin Aid can be given at ANY AGE, u don't have to be 24... but I think ur wanting to be considered for fin aid as Independant student. Ur school is going to ask for FAFSA from u and ur parents. The only way to get around that is to show that u have been supporting yourself and that ur income sustains u. That means ur family contributes zero to your lifestyle and that ur an adult with your own bills/place etc... Many independants work full time and go school either f/t or part time. School time varies... one school I know of considers two years living on your own and receiving no support as status. Others longer. U need to find your school policy and how FAFSA works in the equation. They will look at your tax returns and your sources of income. It is not so much time as circumstances. kids who's parents die can be considered Independant.
